Tbh I never enjoyed mc past 1.16 and that era was only enjoyable cuz of the lockdown. But now I gave the newest version a try and with that I started my 2 week mc phase

Personally I'd just add more tool levels (obv not doable with datapacks) Wood can't be got straight away, instead punch leaves for sticks and break gravel for flint From here you can make flint tools... Oh wait but you need a crafting table, go find a generated structure like a hut or a village with one. (Game should have more generated structures anyway) From here you can make flint tools Flint tools allow you to cut down trees to get logs, as well as mine stone to get cobblestone (which can't be used to make stone tools) From here you can craft bone tools by getting bones from mobs (not just skeletons drop them but skeletons drop more. Bone tools are faster and allow for the mining of coal so you can finally make torches From this step you can craft a furnace and smelt up some cobblestone into stone and make stone tools From here, you can mine and craft iron and iron tools Next up, is steel tools which to craft requires smelting iron in a blast furnace. After steel is diamone and then netherite Obsidian tools would also exist, they would have better stats than even netherite but have very little durability

Minecraft is not terraria. The only issue with it that I see is elytra with fireworks and a lack of a grapple hook.

I just don't build giga-bases or get deep into item farms (aside from crops and maybe cobblestone for construction). It keeps me involved in the game rather than sitting at my desk with a bag of chips, waiting for my iron farm or something. Never built giga-bases, never plan to. I don't find automating a game fun, but that's just me. I'm a miner at heart, and by the gods I yearn for them

Glad you did this follow up. And VS is really a great game-it’s not fast, there’s no instant gratification, you have to be ready to spend time and go through multiple processes to create something (leather backpacks, I’m looking at you!) but when you finally finish making something it’s a lot more rewarding. And the mods are great, so imaginative and fun and useful and, well, you just have to try it first yourself.

The fun part to me, is that this issue is even more nuanced than TheGeekFactor says. I can get to iron quickly because I've been playing since release version 1.4.7, sure, but unlike a good majority of players, I can still just casually die to a group of two skeletons in full enchanted iron or full unenchanted diamond or netherite. The issue for me isn't that the early game is made too easy by this factor, and being forced to survive on even less health would make the game even less playable for me. While all of these factors are great for people who don't suck at PvE and PvP, they're not great for me, but that's okay! After watching this video, I've come just a bit closer to realizing what may work better for my own early game experience, and I'm really appreciative for that!

"If you don't like the new updates don't play them" Yeah except no one makes mods, texture packs, maps, or servers for the old versions, and the ones that already exist get lost because no one updates the download links, and it's almost impossible to find videos of people playing the old versions on youtube. "If you want to change the game just make your own mods" Do you have the slightest idea how difficult it is to make mods? You need a LOT of coding knowledge, plus usually art/3D modeling skills and the knowledge of how to make a mod work with forge or fabric or whatever else they come up with. Coding is very difficult and some people just don't have the time or ability to do it. It's like saying "Don't like modern movies? Make your own!"

how did you manage to cut iron ore generation by 50%?

this is an issue, in older versions of minecraft, (I'm talking about versions prior to beta 1.7.3) iron wasnt as common as now, if you wanted to collect 32 iron ingots you had to mine for at least 1,5 hour

I actually had a similar problem to automation recently - To be clear, I'm terrible at building, and try to look up tips and guides to build better. If you search for ways on how to build, it is very likely you will find "designs" for what your trying to build, or grians old build videos. I don't think these build videos are bad, but they are outdated compared to all of the new items you can build with, and there is literally NO alternative. This is the same problem as automation, arguably worse, as with automation, once you've built it you can understand how it works after you've built it if you try. With building, if you build something and then try understand why it looks good, it's impossible for someone bad at building. I'm not saying for a "guide" on how to build, but explaining why or how to use objects effectively usually in builds. I think of this as having arguably a worse problem, but I could be wrong.

i think the problem is the fact that theres even such thing as the mindset of "getting the best gear". i feel games should NOT have a clear cut meta and should do anything it can to disrupt said meta

My biggest problem is how as a player you skip right over 3 tiers of armor and just go straight to iron. Making leather chainmail and gold useless

Sir I’d think you’d like Gregtech if you like things to be harder but have good rewards. The best way to enjoy it imo is nomifactory

I really agree with a lot of the ways minecraft can be fixed. I do want to say, even with the current way minecraft is, we definitely can make it more enjoyable by adding challenges like not making auto farms, or using new building blocks, etc. What I am doing in my world is giving it a story, and lots of lore. I am adding in game stories abo8t adventures who went out looking for new things that they never saw, and writing irl a story of the world. It has really sprouted my creativity and want to play minecraft again, and I am enjoying a new adventure with what I am planning. So minecraft definitely needs some improvements, but we can still find ways to have fun. (Btw I know you weren't saying we can't have fun currently, and I respect and agree with a lot of your arguments :))

I would rather call it: how to break minecraft make it more frustrating and boring, and completely not vanilla-like... And creating more issues along the way. Like increasing inventory problem. The fact we can achieve very high levels of progression is one of great things about Minecraft. It gives way more freedom. Players can do it slow, but it should always stay their CHOICE. Sandbox game absolutely shouldn't FORCE player for a specific way to play. Sandbox game should give players as much freedom as possible.

I kind of feel like all of this just made the game more grind-y. While yes it’s more difficult to progress through, the difficulty comes from making crafting recipes more complicated and tedious. For example, you made the case that beds are “too easy” to get, but now it’s much harder to get beds and (since you respawn infinitely in Minecraft) it is basically just a huge inconvenience that makes the game annoying. So instead of being able to settle in a place you actually want, you’re stuck near spawn unless you want to run for hundreds of blocks to get your items back. It doesn’t do anything aside from anchor you to the spawn since respawns are infinite anyways and this feature discourages exploration if the player just doesn’t get a bunch of chickens for feathers early on. I think a better fix for a more survival based version of Minecraft is to just make the mobs harder. They don’t need more health or anything, but keeping them a consistent threat throughout all levels of play is a great way of actually making players afraid to go get iron or diamonds in a dark cave. For example, all spiders could potentially poison the player instead of just cave spiders. Skeletons could have a faster rate of fire. Zombies could be faster than other mobs or spawn with leather armor for slightly more defense. Maybe all mobs are faster, stronger, or spawn more in darker light levels or lower Y levels like deeper in caves. Instead of just messing with crafting recipes, making the mobs earn the title of “monsters” makes it so that even leather armor is more worth using if it means not dying to monsters in caves. Now, going into caves to get iron becomes a real challenge you want to be prepared for, otherwise you end up dying a lot. Rather than saying “you’re so weak because you have nothing” it’s “you have nothing because you’re so weak.” So now, you still have the option of getting great early-game equipment, but the risk is greatly increased because monsters are way harder to ignore.

I do not understand people who start champing over "Boo thats a TFC copy". It is clearly not, well, it borrows some ideas, but as you can see it shares deep and warm cultural ties with its predecessor, and pays a lot of respect to it. Same story actually happened with Factorio being inspired by gregtech. What actualy separates realm of Minecraft from it's "offsprings", is the fact that i cannot combine Factorio and Vintage Story into one game, it would require a new team of devs to be assembled and another decade of development. But i can combine Gregtech and Terrafirma together within Minecraft. It is where mincraft's idealess enviroment actualy helps creating and mashing togeter even the most vivid worlds and mechanics. Technomagies, Age progresdion modpacks. Sure our old java boy does not age well with all of the spagetty coding and engine limitations, but for thouse who can still afford him, possibilities are endless. So when i see something inspired by mincraft or it's mods i am always positive about it, live your life and allow others to live too. Maybe one day one of the many childs will surpass old king in his perfection. But so be it, as long as it happens with mutual respect and recognition.

I feel like I've had this experience already by playing Minecraft with a bunch of mods... For example the long, immersive crafting process reminds me of Tinker's Construct, AbyssalCraft makes some passive mobs hostile, and Tough as Nails adds stuff like thirst, hypothermia, and warm clothing, which also couples well with Serene Seasons.

honestly. i get iot. it was a minecraft mod but its been 7 years since it was and 90% of the systems in vintage story. minecrafts engine would die trying. EDIT. most the butt hurt people i dsee most days are die hard hytale hopefuls and as a dude who plays star citizen i get it but still grow the fuck up. hytale isnt here and may never as it was just a way to hype up and get more peiople on hypixel but 7 years and vintage story is amazing and its on humble bundle last i saw and gog and both those sites are verrrrrrrrry strict on there indies

I started playing Minecraft 5 years ago, it was introduced to me by my son who's been playing it for the past 15 years old. At the age of 26, my son, and me at 45, We absolutely love this game. I choose not to fight the ender dragon, haven't even made an attempt to go to the end. I really just love the survival aspect of minecraft. I don't do any Redstone automation, I don't do any mob farms, I like to go out and explore the world. I don't want the game to become too easy for me then I'll get bored. Eventually I'll visit the end, and eventually I might decide to go after ancient debris, but until then, I'm just enjoying playing Minecraft like it's 2011. I like the challenge that you presented in your video. I've been playing games since I was 13. I played the games that had no checkpoints or saved files.

This was a good find, I'm working on a solo project in a similar vein to the themes in this so hearing the validation of feeling reward for doing all the small actions makes me pretty happy lol. I think I'll pick this up just to have in my library and to support more of this kind of work

I really liked Vintage Story, when it was niche game, inspired by TFC in lots of mechanics, and runned better. But with recent popularity, Vintage Story will get worse, i feel.
